Top 10 Ethical Ways to Use AI as a Writer

For months now, the battle has raged — should writers use ChatGPT and other AI tools?

It really all depends on what you ask the tool to do.

I am — and likely forever will be — firmly in the camp against using generative AI to construct full drafts. I don’t want people to throw out a prompt, get a book in response from ChatGPT, and then throw the content up on Amazon for money. I’ve spent far too much time perfecting my voice for that, and I want people to be able to actually think about the words on the page and be deliberate about every one of them.

That said, there ARE some tasks I believe writers can use AI for in good conscience, as I outline in the video below. These uses of AI can help a writer stay on top of the work they have to do, and they function as a means for feedback and more informed choice. NONE of the options I suggest are meant to produce content someone could simply copy and paste, but rather are designed to support the writer’s own processes, evaluations, and self-development.

Which of the suggestions from the video could you see yourself implementing? Are there ones that already are part of your work? Leave me a note in the comments!
